Usually students are good at math and science or english and history, not me. I'm the weird one who is good at science and history. Except for chemistry. Mainly because of all the math that was involved. Which brings me to my worst subject that I hate. Math has never been my favorite pass time. I just couldn't seem to grasp the concept. I've struggled with it my whole entire life.
My sophomore year I was enrolled in a geometry class. I had no motivation what so ever in that class. I hated the teacher, the work, and everything about it. I never paid attention or tried to do the work. I regret doing this because it did effected my GPA. I passed the class with a flat 60. My junior something in me just changed. I was enrolled in an Algebra II class but I was tired of struggling. I figured that if I actually put in extra work and apply myself I would actually understand what I was doing.
Throughout that year I stayed after at least 2 times a week with my teacher when I didn't understand something. I even left lunch early to get help with my homework before class started. Even though I was putting a lot of effort towards this one subject it was all worth it in the end. My teacher told me, "Faith you're effort this semester in unbelievable and for your persistence you get an 5 extra points added on to your grade." At that time I had a 75 so the extra points actually gave me an 80. I was proud of my B-. I've never gotten higher than a C+ in a math class.
Often students are afraid to ask for help because they think it makes them look unintelligent or they don't have a drive to be successful in the classroom. This experience taught me hard work really does pays off. When being persistent you can accomplish anything you put your mind to.
